Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins's groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year. The third and final book of Hunger Games trilogy, this book’s scale is the biggest and there are more scenes focused on rebellion and war rather than the story of the small unknown girl from district 12; it is rather political. After the big huge event happened in the 75th hunger game, Katniss becomes the hero and the symbol for the rebellion. The story goes a little slow in this book; Katniss and District 13, the district that lead the rebellion have several conflicts and the story kept stucking on Katniss’ inner conflicts and thoughts. She got distressed by the Capitol torturing Peeta, her lover. So she hesitates on having war against the Capitol, but seeing the ones that were suppressed and painful by the Capitol, she decides to be the symbol ‘mocking jay’ and revolt against Capitol. War is the part when it gets most exciting, cruel and gloomy. Peeta who unconditionally loved Katniss was brainwashed by Capitol and hated her. Also, most of Katniss’ people died at this part. Their war gets more thrilling and urgent until the Capitol destroyed.Until the war and attacking, story is really, slow and perhaps boring, as I said above. Author might have tried to express Katniss’ complex feelings of all the things happened to her, who is actually fragile, weak and sensitive. But I think author did show Katniss’ mind well; even the reader has got confused by her thoughts. She got confused by Peeta’s changed behaviour, and noticed her true love eventually. It was really pathetic, imagining Peeta acting very cold at Katniss. At last war came to end, Capitol destroyed, Peeta and Katniss got together finally, but it’s not clear that Peeta came back to the ‘old’ Peeta who loved and cared for Katniss deadly. Ending was very wierd; it seems to be a happy ending but it’s not-it was ironic or paradoxical. Most of the people were dead, Gale betrayed Katniss, there were some bitter feeling that everything was not as good as the life before their rebellion. Also, Katniss at the end says: “But there are much worse games to play” (pg 388) that gives readers a question and brings up the tension again. Didn’t everything end? The ending really made me confused and I felt that the story was not resolved completely. The ending was happy but gloomy, peaceful but confusing.Product Details Reading level: Young Adult Hardcover: 400 pages Publisher: Scholastic Press; 1st edition (August 24, 2010) Language: English ISBN-10: 0439023513 ISBN-13: 978-0439023511 Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 5.4 x 1.5 inches
