Gods & Bods is a comic/fantasy novel about a government’s manipulation and exploitation of their god in order to assert their own political power and control. The story is set within the confines of an outside-in planet, unwittingly manufactured by an imperfect deity, which essentially acts as a universe in microcosm for the people that dwell inside of it.Trích chap one “The universe—where would we be without it? The gods responsible for its construction and its continuing expansion are, understandably, a creative collective. These astronomical artists, pioneers of internal design, set and space the celestial furniture with fantastic feng shui. They manufacture and manoeuvre the stars to their preordained positions, and plot and place the planets into suitable orbits around them. Over the aeons they’ve worked ceaselessly, slowly chipping away at the ever-growing blank, diluting the darkness with light, laws and, occasionally, life. And their craft will never stop—forever more stellar winds will be made to blow across new galaxies as they glow and grow, and all mortal denizens born unto the grand design will come to be astounded in their granted time.Well—that was the theory; in practise, things have turned out somewhat differently. There is a discernible discrepancy between what should have been, and what actually is sat out there in space. What possible reasons, you may ask, could there be for the gods’ precise plans erring in any way? The obvious answer is often overlooked.Throughout history—throughout all histories in fact—there have been many life forms that have evolved enough to conquer the dizzying peak of intelligence. However, after arriving at such an altitude, they have all then wondered how they’d came to be climbing the mountain in the first place. They’d stood lost upon the lonely summit, surmising about their place in the order of things, whilst all that they’d seen before themselves were just the skies and their sins. In each of their cases it was never too long before their god was sought after—the explanatory entity to give their lives rhyme and reason in the grand scheme.Once having recognized the architect and landlord of their lives, however, the lowly loyal have then almost always tended to jump to conclusions about his nature. And each time they’ve done so, they’ve seemed inclined to project their own values upon his character—pretending to know the proprietor, rather than just humbly accepting their tenancy agreements. They will believe to know how much he loves or loathes them at any given time. They will be rashly resolute about what he deems to be good, bad or otherwise. And, finally, they will consider him to be immaculate, presuming that perfection lies within each of his deeds and thoughts. It is the latter of these assumptions which is the most misguided. ….”
