- 100 SOA Questions brings together authoritative answers to the most crucial questions business, technical, and architectural decision-makers ask about SOA. It draws on the immense experience of two SOA experts who’ve participated in more than 100 SOA projects in the roles of architect, designer, consultant, technical manager, and strategist. Organized to reflect the Open Group’s Open Services Integration Maturity Model (OSIMM), this book provides fast, convenient access to information about all facets of SOA planning, implementation, management, and utilization. This book will be an invaluable resource for all executives, architects, and practitioners who have just started their SOA journey or are well underway. - A couple of years ago, I jumped into the SOA world, as my client was sticking their toes into SOA. At the time I was completely new to SOA, and did a fair amount of reading and speaking with other practitioners. The contract ended up being cancelled after several months for unrelated reasons. My next client engagement was completely unrelated to SOA, so I ceased my activities in that area. Fast forward to today - I find myself back with a client pursuing several services initiatives in their organization. "100 SOA Questions Asked and Answered" was the perfect "Re-introduction" to the topic. I wasn't looking for a book that spent dozens of pages introducing what SOA is and what its advantages are - I just wanted something that would allow me to re-familiarize myself with the issues involved. The book is very straightforward and well-organized. It is clear that authors Holley and Arsanjani have great experience with multiple SOA implementations. I would recommend this book to anyone beginning an SOA implementation - it will quickly acquaint you with the lessons learned and issues to consider. - The strength of this book lies in its simplicity. SOA is many things to many people and it is easy to lose audience trying to explain this architecture and what it does to business using either business or technical jargons. Having had experience in implementing SOA projects and teaching SOA method, it is amazing to read how the concepts and thoughts around SOA could be organized and explained to both technical and non-technical readers in such a lucid way. Before reading this book I was guessing this was going to be something like reading FAQ. But after reading I realized that the questions were selected carefully and packaged logically. Especially coming from a technical background I learned a lot from the second chapter on the business aspects of SOA, which I am planning to make use of when I talk to business people on SOA next time. The power of the Q& A style has been fully exploited by Holley and Arsanjani as it confines both the authors and the reader to just one aspect of SOA providing full attention to the point being discussed. I do not know if it was a conscious effort or accidental, both Holley and Arsanjani have made this book itself a `service oriented' book by providing the Q& A format, thereby, you can go to any question on SOA and get the answer without having to read any preceding or succeeding sections in the book.
