After the sixth party congress, Vietnam started implementing economic reform. The content of the reform is the transaction from the centralized economy into a socialist- oriented market economy.

The people throughout the country are trying their best to implement the objective “wealthy people, strong country, just and civilized society”. The first task is industrializing and modernizing the country. Vietnam has expanded foreign trade relations with many countries. Import and export activities play an important role in economic development, export makes the sources of foreign currency increase while import provides the people with a greater choice of goods and services and serves for extended reproduction to accelerate industrialization and modernization of the country.

One of the foremost task is constructing modern infrastructure to attract more foreign investors. Therefore, the demand of steel pipe for building and decorating has increased. In the development process of the country, HoaPhat Steel Pipe has step by step asserted their trademark and has become a leading company in steel sector and supply product for many main construction such as National conference central, the Manor My Dinh, Melinh Plaza Building, Garden Plaza, Vinh Tuy bridge, Thanh Tri bridge…Because of high demand for steel pipe in recent time and supplier domestic market do not supply enough for company, so HoaPhat must import steel form foreign country like China, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong…HoaPhat Steel Pipe always makes every effort to improve its export activities. With the personnel’s exertion, the company has recorded great achievements, especially import activities, contribution to develop the country. But the company has not been able to avoid all difficulties in importing.

After working as an internship in HoaPhat Steel Pipe Company in a period off time, I decided to write a topic “The import activities of HoaPhat Steel Pipe Company”. This topic concentrates on analyzing and assessing results, effects and difficulties of the company’s import activities to find out solutions to improving importing effects. The topic is divided into 3 chapters:

- Chapter I: Overview of HoaPhat Group and HoaPhat Steel Pipe Company”

- Chapter II: The import activities of HoaPhat Steel Pipe Company in the past years.
